What's on offer?

Join UH's researcher, Dr Christopher Nicholas to learn about the research on upskilling young talents, finding jobs, and career change. You’ll hear how the University of Hertfordshire has been working side-by-side with Stevenage Borough Council to create the new Stevenage Works Skills Framework 2024 — a plan designed to open up jobs, training, and personal development for local people. You’ll hear real stories, pick up tips on making the most of local schemes, and discover ways to match your skills to what local employers are looking for. Come along to explore your options, ask questions, and leave with ideas and contacts to help you take your next step.

What's it about?

For over five years, researchers from the University of Hertfordshire have been working closely with Stevenage Borough Council to make sure local people benefit from new jobs, training, and investment in the area. This partnership has helped shape the council’s plans for boosting skills and opportunities — including the Stevenage Works Skills Framework 2024. This framework is designed to open doors for residents at every stage of life, whether you’re starting out, returning to work, or aiming to move up in your career. Our research looks at how well the plan is working so far, what’s making a difference, and where more can be done. This session is your chance to hear the latest findings, share your own experiences, and get practical advice on how you can connect with the opportunities available right now in Stevenage.
